The Word of God- History of Hearts: Part 2

The Word of God- History Part 2: "The Hardened History of Hearts"

*Miraculous signs for Pharaoh: Exodus 4

*The First Encounter with Pharaoh: Exodus 5

*Israel's Deliverance Assured:
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel,
"I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God:
and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which [I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage]: I am the Lord."
And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel:
but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
And Moses spake before the Lord, saying,
"Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?"
Exodus 6:6-9, 12

- R.C. Sproul

Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: While it is said, "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation."
Hebrews 3:8, 15

Continued-
•take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.
•the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, "We be all dead men."
•And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses.
•And the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required.
•And they spoiled the Egyptians.
•And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.
-Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.
•And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.
* It is a night to be much observed unto the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt:
* this is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
Exodus 12:31-37, 40-42

Hard hearts throughout scripture in the New Testament:

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Matthew 13:14-15

For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
Mark 6:52

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith,
"Why doth this generation seek after a sign?"
*verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them,
"Why reason ye, because ye have no bread?
perceive ye not yet, neither understand?
have ye your heart yet hardened?
Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?"
Mark 8:12, 17, 18

Old Testament-
*bitter waters made sweet *bread from heaven
*water from the rock Exodus 15:22-27; 16:1-37; 17:1-7

*the Lord sends quail
Num. 11:31-35

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Ephesians 4:18

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their [conscience seared with a hot iron].
1 Timothy 4:1, 2

"Now, I hold no man's faith to be sure faith unless he knows what he believes."
- Charles Spurgeon

"And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may *hear when I speak with thee, and *believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord."
Exodus 19:9
