The Living Sacrifice- Part 2:

Isaiah 53:10

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.

The crowd chooses Barabbas:
Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.

Prisoner-
1. A person held in custody, captivity, or a condition of forcible restraint, especially while on trial or serving a prison sentence.
2. One deprived of freedom of expression or action
"For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles." Ephesians 3:1
"Since these children are people with physical bodies, Jesus himself became like them. He did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death—the devil."
Hebrews 2:14

"Freedom"
Freedom to Sin or Freedom from Sin?!?
Freedom to struggle or struggling to be Free?
Freedom in Christ or Freedom in Choice?
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery."
Galatians 5:1

And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them,
“Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up.
Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him,
"Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.
The governor again said to them,
“Which of the two do you want me to release for you?”
And they said,
“Barabbas.”
Pilate said to them,
“Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”
They all said,
“Let him be crucified!”
And he said,
“Why, what evil has he done?”
But they shouted all the more,
“Let him be crucified!”

Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9; 11:29

Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified:
So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,
“I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”
And all the people answered,
“His blood be on us and on our children!”
Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

-Pilate ended up condemning an innocent Man and releasing a guilty man. Jesus took his place on the cross.
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls." (1 Peter 2:24-25 KJV)

The crucifixion:
As they went out, they found a man of *Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross.
(Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to *Cyrene and visitors from Rome-Acts 2:10)

Research:
"The prisoner then usually had to carry the horizontal beam (patibulum in Latin) to the place of execution, not necessarily the whole cross. Crucifixion was typically carried out by specialized teams, consisting of a commanding centurion and four soldiers. When it was done in an established place of execution, the vertical beam (stipes) was sometimes permanently embedded in the ground."

Simon of Cyrene and The Cross:
-Questions-
Was Simon of Cyrene in Jerusalem to celebrate Passover?
Or to fulfill a Will and to carry The Lamb of God's cross?
Was he converted?
Did Simon lead his sons to faith in Christ?

"And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross." Mk. 15:21
Carried our sorrows- Isaiah 53:4

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:34-37 KJV)

-Furthur study in scripture pertaining to "Simon of Cyrene"
Acts 6:9; 11:20, 26; Luke 22:26; Romans 16:13

Definition: The word crucifixion comes from the Latin "crucifixio," or "crucifixus," meaning "fixed to a cross."
The Romans chastisement of crucifixion wasn't exercised by the Jews. The Jewish people distinguished crucifixion as one of the ultimate gruesome customs of death (Deuteronomy 21:23).
The Romans used this approach of punishment as a system of jurisdiction and predomination over society.

"Leave out the cross, and you have killed the religion of Jesus. Atonement by the blood of Jesus is not an arm of Christian truth; it is the heart of it."
- Charles Haddon Spurgeon
