The Scarlet Woman- The Mother of Harlots

The Scarlet Woman and the Scarlet Beast (The meaning of the Woman & the Beast):
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me,
“Come, I will show you the judgment of the great *harlot who sits on many waters, And on her forehead a name was written:
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF *HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Then he said to me,
“The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.
And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
Revelation 17:1, 5, 15-16

Heaven Exults over Babylon:
For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great *harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”
Revelation 19:2

Harlot:
a prostitute; whore.

Rome clearly appears to be meant in this chapter.

Pagan Rome subdued and ruled with military power, not by art and flatteries. She left the nations in general to their ancient usages and worship. But it is well known that by crafty and politic management, with all kinds of deceit of unrighteousness, papal Rome has obtained and kept her rule over kings and nations.

Here were allurements of worldly honour and riches, pomp and pride, suited to sensual and worldly minds. Prosperity, pomp, and splendour, feed the pride and lusts of the human heart, but are no security against the Divine vengeance. The golden cup represents the allurements, and delusions, by which this mystical Babylon has obtained and kept her influence, and seduced others to join her abominations.

She is named, from her infamous practices, a mother of harlots; training them up to idolatry and all sorts of wickedness. She filled herself with the blood of the saints and martyrs of Jesus. She intoxicated herself with it; and it was so pleasant to her, that she never was satisfied.

Let us avoid the mysteries of iniquity, and study diligently the great mystery of godliness, that we may learn humility and gratitude from the example of Christ.

The more we seek to resemble him, the less we shall be liable to be deceived by antichrist.

They shall see their folly, and how they have been bewitched and enslaved by the harlot, and be made instruments in her destruction. She was that great city which reigned over the kings of the earth, when John had this vision; and every one knows Rome to be that city. Believers will be received to the glory of the Lord, when wicked men will be destroyed in a most awful manner; their joining together in sin, will be turned to hatred and rage, and they will eagerly assist in tormenting each other.

Fornication-
In every form of it was sternly condemned by the Mosaic law (Lev 21:9; 19:29; Deut 22:20, 21, 23-29; 23:18; Ex 22:16).

But this word (Adultery) is more frequently used in a symbolical than in its ordinary sense. It frequently means a forsaking of God or a following after idols.
(Isa 1:2; Jer 2:20; Ezek 16; Hos 1:2; 2:1-5; Jer 3:8, 9)

The Peril of Adultery:

My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:  Proverbs 5:1

"Solomon cautions all young men, as his children, to abstain from fleshly lusts."

Attend/קָשַׁב/ qashab:
a primitive root; to prick up the ears, i.e. hearken:--attend, (cause to) hear(-ken), give heed, incline, mark (well), regard.

Ear/אֹזֶן/ozen:
Used frequently in a figurative sense (Ps 34:15).
To "uncover the ear" is to show respect to a person (1 Sam 20:2 marg.).
To have the "ear heavy", or to have "uncircumcised ears" (Isa 6:10), is to be inattentive and disobedient.
To have the ear "bored" through with an awl was a sign of perpetual servitude (Ex 21:6).

"That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge."(Proverbs 5:2 KJV)

Regard-
a primitive root; properly, to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard; generally, to protect, attend to, etc.:--beward, be circumspect, take heed (to self), keep(-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch(-man).

Discretion/מְזִמָּה/mĕzimmah:
from 'zamam' (STRONG_H2161); a plan, usually evil (machination), sometimes good (sagacity):--(wicked) device, discretion, intent, witty invention, lewdness, mischievous (device), thought, wickedly.

For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:  (Proverbs 5:3 KJV)

4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

End/אַחֲרִית/achariyth:
from ''achar' (STRONG_H310); the last or end, hence, the future; also posterity:--(last, latter) end (time), hinder (utter) -most, length, posterity, remnant, residue, reward.

Bitter/מַר/mar:
or (feminine) marah {maw-raw'}; from 'marar' (STRONG_H4843); bitter (literally or figuratively); also (as noun) bitterness, or (adverbially) bitterly:--+ angry, bitter(-ly, -ness), chafed, discontented, X great, heavy.

Wormwood/לַעֲנָה/ la`anah:
from an unused root supposed to mean to curse; wormwood
(regarded as poisonous, and therefore accursed):
hemlock, wormwood.

Sword/חֶרֶב/chereb:
from 'charab' (STRONG_H2717); drought; also a cutting instrument (from its destructive effect), as a knife, sword, or other sharp implement:--axe, dagger, knife, mattock, sword, tool.

Those who would be kept from harm, must keep out of harm's way.

If we thrust ourselves into temptation we mock God when we pray, Lead us not into temptation.

The Model Prayer:

Matthew 6:13
"And lead (to bring into, in or to
to lead into) us not (no, not lest) into (into, unto, to, towards, for, among) temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

So long as we are in this world we are exposed to temptations, and need ever to be on our watch against them.

Temptation/πειρασμός
Transliteration: peirasmos
from 'peirazo' (STRONG_G3985); a putting to proof (by experiment (of good), experience (of evil), solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication, adversity:--temptation, X try.

Deliver/ῥύομαι
Transliteration: rhyomai
middle voice of an obsolete verb, akin to 'rheo' (STRONG_G4482) (through the idea of a current; compare 4511); to rush or draw (for oneself), i.e. rescue:--deliver(-er).

Evil/πόνος
Transliteration: ponos
great trouble, intense desire
pain

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.  Proverbs 5:5

Go down/יָרַד
Transliteration: yarad
Pronunciation: yä·rad'
Part of Speech: verb
Root Word (Etymology): a primitive root
Outline of Biblical Usage:
to go down, descend, decline, march down, sink down

(Hiphil)

Hold/Tamak-

"My God is so Big"
(Veggie Tunes- Lyrics)

My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

The mountains are His,
the rivers are His
The stars are His handiwork too
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do, hey, hey

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

The mountains are His, the rivers are His
The stars are His handiwork too
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

The mountains are His, the rivers are His
The stars are His handiwork too
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty
There's nothing my God cannot do

There's nothing my God cannot do
There's nothing, nothing, nothing He can't do

-It may seem quite juvenile to use a children's song to describe God and all that He is, but these lyrics quote:
Exodus and Deuteronomy, so well and it speaks of who our God is!

More Examples of "God IS..."

Psalms 86:8
None can compare to you among the gods, O Lord! Your exploits are incomparable!

•Ride- To be carried

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God [is thy] refuge, and underneath [are] the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy [them].

-When I would become afraid I would pray; my prayer was this:

"Dear Lord God,
Please put angels in back of me, in front of me, underneath me, above me, and my left and right side. Amen."

- We get ready for the day
(we put on our clothes; and we Imagine ourselves putting on the whole armor of God, as we dress ourselves)

-We get ready for bed
(We put on our PJ's; prepare our hearts for evening prayer- entering into the presence of our Lord)

-Saying that prayer made me feel protected and surrounded me with comfort that allowed me to close my eyes without feeling vulnerable; knowing I was in Good hands while I dreamt in the night.

12 [And] of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; [and the LORD] shall cover him all the day long,
and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
27 The eternal God [is thy] refuge, and underneath [are] the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say,
Destroy [them].

Another juvenile example, but consider these lyrics:

He's Got The Whole World in His Hands:

He's Got: (Possession)
•The Whole World
•The Baby
•My Brother
•The Son (Seated @ The Right Hand of The Father) & his Father
•The Mother & the Daughter
•Everybody
•The Sun & The Moon
...in His Hands!

- I believe I stress this as much as I have because if we meditate on The What (He Is) Where (He IS), Who (He IS) & Why (He IS)...
We will always remember & never forget!

Deuteronomy 8:2, 11, 14, 18-19

2 And thou shalt [remember]
all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, [and] to prove thee, to know what [was] in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

11 Beware that thou
[forget]
not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
[forget]
the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

18 But thou shalt [remember]
the LORD thy God: for [it is] he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as [it is] this day.

19 And it shall be, if thou do at all
[forget]
the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

The Law of Deuteronomy: Part 4

*Miscellaneous Laws:

“If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Deuteronomy 21:22, 23

The Law Brings a Curse:
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us for it is written,
“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”
Galatians 3:13

Suffering for Christ:
From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.
II Corinthians 11:24

Reluctant Boasting:
For you put up with it if one brings you into bondage, if one devours you, if one takes from you, if one exalts himself, if one strikes you on the face.
To our shame I say that we were too weak for that!
But in whatever anyone is bold—I speak foolishly—I am bold also.

Suffering for Christ:
Are they Hebrews?
So am I.
Are they Israelites?
So am I.
Are they the seed of Abraham?
So am I.
Are they ministers of Christ?
—I speak as a fool—I am more:
in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.
From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.
Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness—
besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
Who is weak, and I am not weak?
Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?
If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.
 In Damascus the governor, under Aretas the king, was guarding the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desiring to arrest me;
II Corinthians 11:20-32

Paul mentioned his sufferings only to defend The Gospel & The Authority of his Ministry.

Are you; Bragging about your Triumphs or boasting about your trials?

*The Law Brings a Curse:

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written,

“Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”

But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for
“the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but
“the man who does them shall live by them.”
(Abraham- where the Promise started)
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us for it is written,

“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”
that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:10-14

The Just Live By Faith:
“Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4

Only One Gospel:
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
Galatians 1:8, 9

Paul knew these curses well.
He had read them in the book of Deuteronomy, of course, but he had also heard them recited on five memorable occasions.
Five times Paul was punished by the Jews for preaching the gospel, and each time he received the standard punishment:

“forty lashes minus one”
(2 Corinthians 11:24).

The synagogue manuals of that time required someone to read out the curses of the law while the prisoner was being whipped.
Thus as Paul received the final stripe on his back, he may well have heard the very words that he laterquoted to the Galatians:
“Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

Warning Against Idleness:
But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.
And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.
Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Benediction:
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way.
The Lord be with you all. The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is a sign in every epistle; so I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
 Amen.

The Law of Deuteronomy: Part 3

*Curses on Disobedience:
Deuteronomy 28:15-68

15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store.
18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
20 The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
21 The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it.
22 The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24 The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25 The LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 And thy carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
27 The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.
28 The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart:
29 And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee .
30 Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
31 Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them .
32 Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand.
33 The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway:
34 So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
35 The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
36 The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.
37 And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.
38 Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.
39 Thou shalt plant vineyards, and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes ; for the worms shall eat them.
40 Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit .
41 Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.
42 All thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume.
43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.
45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:
46 And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
   47 Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things ;
48 Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things : and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
   49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young:
51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine, or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee.
52 And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.
53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
54 So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave:
55 So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
56 The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
57 And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness, wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
   58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;
59 Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
60 Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
62 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
63 And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you .

If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there he will take you.
And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it.
And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.

(Back Together- New Relationship "reconnected")

Vs. 11-13
“For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’

Vs. 19
"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live."

*The Discipline of God:

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.
*For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” (Prov. 3:11-12)
It is for discipline that you have to endure.
God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them.
Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

*Joshua Renews the Covenant:

Then Joshua built an altar unto the Lord God of Israel in mount Ebal, As Moses the servant of the Lord commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.
And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against [mount Gerizim],
and half of them over against [mount Ebal];
as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.

Study of David- The Wages of Sin Part 2:

David, Bathsheba & Uriah-

And it came to pass,
after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle,
that David sent Joab,
and his servants with him, and all Israel;
and they destroyed the children of Ammon,
and besieged Rabbah.
-But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

"You start on the path of sin when you neglect duty. David was in more danger in Jerusalem than with his army on the battlefield. He laid aside armor."

Ephesians 6:11-13
Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

The Evil Day-
James 1:14

Continued-
And it came to pass in an eveningtide,
that David arose from off his bed,
and walked upon the roof of the king's house:

Question-
Walked upon the roof of his house, Why?

"Yea, though I walk through the valley (roof top) of the shadow of death..."
Psalms 23:4

"Behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat."
Luke 22:31

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."
1 Peter 5:8

Continued-
and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself;
and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

"He allowed his eyes to wander..."

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
Matthew 5:27, 28

Continued-
"And David sent messengers, and took her."

Took/Take:
-to get into one's hold or possession by voluntary action:
"to take a cigarette out of a box; to take a pen and begin to write."
-to hold, grasp, or grip:
"to take a book in one's hand; to take a child by the hand."
-to get into one's hands, possession, control, etc., by force or artifice:
"to take a bone from a snarling dog."
-to seize or capture:
"to take an enemy town; to take a prisoner."

Continued-
and she came in unto him, and he lay with her;
for she was purified from her uncleanness:

Purified-
•to free from guilt or evil.
•to clear or purge.
•to make clean for ceremonial or ritual use.

Cleansed-
•to make clean.
to remove by or as if by cleaning:
"to cleanse sin from the soul."

She would not be cleansing herself of impurities if she had not known it was not pure.
She recognized her sin- and attempted to rid of it herself.
How come she did not cry out to God?
Confess her sin?
Ask for forgiveness?
Repent?
She was guilty!

Q) Who can wash away my sins?
A) "Nothing but the Blood of Jesus."

(NKJV) "for she was cleansed from her impurity."

(ASV) "for she was purified from her uncleanness"

(NET) "Now at that time she was in the process of purifying herself from her menstrual uncleanness."
- I do not believe this translation:

-If an egg is fertilized by a sperm, pregnancy begins...
...If egg is not fertilized by a sperm, the menstruation cycle begins.
-The egg is developing in the ovary during the cycle-hence; the mature egg can only be fertilized after leaving the ovary.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cycle

Example of immaculate conception (Mary was a virgin):
"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:
and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David."
Luke 1:30-32

God is sovereign- He is in control:

-For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.
-But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh,
and he of the freewoman through promise.
Galatians 4:22, 23

-As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird— No birth, no pregnancy, and no conception!
Hosea 9:11

"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21

"When I was made in secret"
Psalms 139:15

-Then, when desire has conceived,
 it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown,
brings forth death.
 James 1:15

and she returned unto her house.
2 Samuel 11:1, 2, 4

"...and lust took over."

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:12-17

Continued-
2 Samuel 11:3
So David sent someone to inquire about the woman.
The messenger said, "Isn't this
•Bathsheba,
•the daughter of Eliam,
•the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"

Inquire:
to seek information by questioning; ask:
"to inquire about a person."

-David sent and inquired about the woman (3a)
-The wife of Uriah (3b)

David sent messengers- Why?
A) Disobedience:
"Neither shall he multiply wives to himself,
that his heart turn not away."
Deuteronomy 17:17

-Polygamy:
the practice or condition of having more than one spouse, especially wife, at one time.

Exodus 20:14
"You shall not commit adultery.

17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor."

Proverbs 9:17
"Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!"

History-

The Genealogy (23-38), is Mary's- whose Father was Heli.
Joseph was not the biological Father of Jesus, though others assumed that:

-Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. (John 1:45 KJV)

-And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? (John 6:42 KJV)

The Genealogy of Joseph is found in Matthew 1.
