A Jew was one outwardly, but now... a Jew is one inwardly (Brief Breakdown)

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes- 'the Jew first' and... 'also the Gentile.'
There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek.
Romans 1:16; 2:9

Romans 2:28-29
For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical.
But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.
OLD TESTAMENT:

Old Covenant:
 Genesis 17:11
You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.

The New Covenant foretold in the Old Testament:

This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:6
Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.
And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
Jeremiah 4:4; 24:7
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds.”
I will give them a heart to know that I am the LORD, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart.

Ezekiel 36:25-27
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of fleshAnd I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
Jesus Fulfills The Law:
Jesus:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus:
“How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?”

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit“Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
John 3:2, 4-7

NEW TESTAMENT:
we serve in the new way (of the Spirit), and not in the old way of the written code.

The New Covenant fulfilled, in The New Testament, foretold in The Old Testament:
1 CORINTHIANS 7:19
For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God.

Galatians 6:15
For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation (Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Colosians 2:11
In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ
We were once foreigners (Gentiles), uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh.
We are still Gentiles, in the flesh, but now we are Jews inwardly because of the circumcision of heart.
In The Old Testament,
You were a Jew, outwardly because of Circumcision (in flesh), and it had value.

If you were a Jew, You observed the Law, but if you broke The Law...
The Priest (from The Tribe of Levi, The Levitical Priest), made atonement for you (Sin Offering- an animal had to die in your place to atone for your sin), and the sin which you committed.

Hence, your circumcision (in flesh), has become uncircumcision
So basically what was done, has become undone, because you can not keep the law.

Circumcised in heart, has value... whether you observe the Law or if you break the Law, because we can not keep the law. Jesus, our High Priest, made atonement for you (The Ultimate Sin Offering- He died in your place to atone for your sins).

He suffered, He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
He Himself bore the sin and gave His life as a ransom for many. He poured out Himself to death.

God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice.
For the death that He died, having been offered once, bearing the sins of many, He would have had to suffer repeatedly... But now He has appeared once for all (passing over the sins committed beforehand), doing away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
He was indeed crucified yet He lives by God's power. Since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.

Since Christ raised us from the dead, we cannot die again.
Your circumcision of heart, can not become uncircumcision. Because... if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.

A Jew was one outwardly, but now... a Jew is one inwardly.
A circumcised heart (a Jew inwardly), secures your eternity in The Kingdom of God.

Catholicism (A man made religion) & Mary Worship

And when I (John), heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.” (Revelation22:8-9)

Catholicism:

Mary becomes an additional member of the Trinity...

The Roman Catholic Church has not only committed the same error as John (worshiping Angels), but makes a practice of it, despite the testimony of the Scriptures. The Catholic Church has exalted Mary—a servant of the Lord (Luke 1:38)—to the same level as God, if not higher.

A testimony of Pope Pius IX:

Apostolic Constitution of Pope Pius IX solemnly defining the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, 8 December 1854.

Pray to the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God (Mother of Jesus).
Mother of mercy and grace (replaces the Holy Spirit)
The work of our salvation (a co-redeemer).
She has been appointed by God, to be the Queen of heaven and earth

Exalted above all the choirs of angels and saints
Stands at the right hand of her only-begotten Son (Jesus is God's only begotten Son), Jesus Christ our Lord
She presents our petitions (co-mediator)
-Pope Pius IX

This testimony of Pope Pius IX, is blasphemous!

Those words are taught and practiced throughout Roman Catholic history.

God alone is our Redeemer, our Deliverer, our Benefactor, and our Comforter. He alone is to be worshiped. The Scriptures are very clear.

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Romans 8:27
And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men (the man Christ Jesus).

Hebrews 7:25
Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him (Jesus), since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Those who love Me, keep My commandments

Exodus 20:3-6
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make for yourself a carved imageany likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.

Leviticus 26:1
You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God.

Isaiah 45:20-22
"They have no knowledge, who carry about their wooden idol (Rosary), and pray to a god (Mary), who cannot save. Declare and set forth your case; indeed, let them consult together. There is no other God besides Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none except Me. Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other."

Jesus’ Birth Foretold

The angel said:
“Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.
“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High

Mary said (to the angel): “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered and said: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.”

Favor:
Mary; for you have found favor with God.

Favor-
Finding favor means gaining approval, acceptance, or special benefits or blessings.
There is also a close association among favor, grace, and mercy, which are sometimes used to translate the same Hebrew and Greek words.
The favor that human beings receive from God depends on His good pleasure.

His favor lasts a lifetime. Psalm 30:5

So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
Shows favor to the humble.
For whoever finds me, finds life and obtains favor from the LORD.
A good man will obtain favor from the LORD.
Good understanding produces favor.
Proverbs 3:4, 34; 8:35; 12:2, 13:15

Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Genesis 6:8
Moses:
Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.”
Ex. 33:13

Naphtali, satisfied with favor. Deuteronomy 33:23

Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the LORD and with men. 1 Samuel. 2:26
God gave Daniel favor. Daniel 1:9
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52
...having favor with all the people. David found favor in God's sight. Acts 2:47; 7:46

Mary's humble reaction to the news that she would give birth to the Son of God

Luke 1:46-55
Mary said:
My soul doth magnify the Lord
My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior
He (God), hath regarded the low estate of His handmaiden (Mary)
All generations shall call me blessed
He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is His name.
His mercy is on them that fear him

Rather than glorifying herself, she humbly worshiped the Lord.

Mary Visits Elizabeth:

All generations shall call me blessed...

Blessed are you among women
Blessed is the fruit of your womb
Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord (42,45)

If Catholics actually read the Bible, they would see how little is actually said about Mary.

Scripture has little to say about Mary.
There’s no description of her appearance, her life, her later years (after Christ’s death), or her own death and burial.
She does appear with the disciples and the other believers on the day of Pentecost, she’s not an object of worship or even a leader in the early church. There simply are no biblical examples of anyone ever praying to her or giving her honor.
She does not play a role in any biblical explanation of the gospel.
Paul said, the mother of Jesus was “a descendent of David” (Romans 1:3), and he said that Christ was “born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4).

Matthew 24:24
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

God's Marriage to Israel & faithless Israel/The Church betrothed to Christ.

The marriage relationship allows us to experientially identify with God and His relationship with Israel.
- Gary Thomas

I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord GOD, and you became mine.

Adulterous Wife and Faithful Husband:

Hosea’s Wife Gomer:
When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.”

“For their mother has played the harlot;
She who conceived them has acted shamefully."

The unfaithfulness of their mother, children of whoredom, the children were possibly not fathered by Hosea.

“Name him Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”

“Name her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have compassion on the house of Israel, that I would ever forgive them.
“But I will have compassion on the house of Judah and deliver them by the LORD their God, and will not deliver them by bow, sword, battle, horses or horsemen.”

“Name him Lo-ammi, for you are not My people and I am not your God.”
Hosea Redeems His Wife:
'I will go after my lovers...'
She shall pursue her lovers but not overtake them, and she shall seek them but shall not find them. Then she shall say, 'I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.'

Go again, love. Having been previously separated, Hosea was commanded to pursue his estranged wife Gomer (illustrating God's unquenchable love for faithless Israel).
And the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods..."

Summery:
Hosea's marriage to Gomer depicts God's marriage to Israel. The physical immorality of Gomer pictures the spiritual idolatry with Israel.

Israel brings nothing to the marriage; God makes all the promises and provides all the dowry.

Dowry: ×žֹ֣×”ַר, “purchase price,” “purchase money”
The actual meaning of the word is in effect “bride-price,” a sum paid
Jeremiah 32:10
"I signed and sealed the deed, and called in witnesses, and weighed out the silver on the scales."
  • Hosea bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley.
He said to her, "You must dwell as mine for many days. You shall not play the whore, or belong to another man; so will I also be to you."
Equaling 30 pieces of silver. The price paid for a common slave (Ex. 21:32).
  • Ruth the Moabite, the widow of Mahlon, I (Boaz), have bought to be my wife.

  • This could be paid in service:
Jacob fled to the land of Aram;
there Israel served for a wife,
and for a wife he guarded sheep.

Genesis 30:26
"Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me depart; for you yourself know my service which I have rendered you."

  • If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her (to be his wife). Exodus 22:16
Genesis 34
Shechem had defiled Dinah, Jacob's daughter, Levi and Simeon's sister.
Shechem: "Ask me ever so much bridal payment and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; but give me the girl in marriage."
Jacob's sons (Levi and Simeon), answered Shechem and his father Hamor with deceit (because he had defiled Dinah, their sister).
Levi and Simeon: "We can't do such a thing; we can't give our sister to a man who is not circumcised.

Only on this condition will we agree with you—that you will become as we are by every male among you being circumcised. If you will not agree to be circumcised, we'll take our sister and go."

The young man, Shechem, did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter.
On the third day, when they were sore, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and came against the city (while it felt secure), and killed all the males and they killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house and went away.

Adulterous Israel and Faithful Lord:

The Lord Accuses Israel:
The Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land (Children of Israel). There is no faithfulness or steadfast love,
and no knowledge of God in the land; there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
"...like Adam they transgressed the covenant"

Israel’s Unfaithfulness Punished:
O Ephraim, you have played the whore;
Israel is defiled.
For the spirit of whoredom is within them,
and they know not the Lord.
They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord.
Proverbs 6:32
He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

Ezekiel 23:7
She bestowed her whoring upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them, and she defiled herself with all the idols of everyone after whom she lusted.

Jeremiah 3:20
"Surely, as a treacherous wife leaves her husband, so have you been treacherous to me, O house of Israel, declares the LORD."

She forgot Me,” declares the LORD. Israel forgot her true God.

I will betroth you. God's restoring love...
Israel will no longer be thought of as a prostitute.
The Lord’s Mercy on Israel:
I will return again to my place, until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face, and in their distress earnestly seek me.

I gave you a king in my anger,
and I took him away in my wrath.

For the children of Israel shall dwell many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or household gods. Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.

Hosea 2:7
She shall pursue her lovers but not overtake them, and she shall seek them but shall not find them. Then she shall say, 'I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now.'
I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord.
Isaiah 54:5
For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth He is called.
62:4
You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married.
2 Corinthians 11:2
For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

A New Covenant:
(In contrast to The Mosaic Covenant)
Promise:
I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers (Abraham & David), on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts.

Jeremiah 31:31-34

The church of God, was obtained with his own blood (Acts 20:28).
You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.
...not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of His own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption (The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord).

“purchase price,” “purchase money,” “bride-price”

1 Corinthians 6:20, 7:23
For you were bought with a price.
You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us to redeem us...

1 Peter 1:18-19
Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

Romans 14:8
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.

God circumcises our hearts:

Circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit (Romans 2:29).

'I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

The LORD your God will circumcise your heart (remove the foreskins of your heart), and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

"Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
"Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit."

His Bride:
The Betrothal, The Church was betrothed to Christ (Ephesians 1:4; Hebrews 13:20). We will be presented to Him (without spot or wrinkle or any such thing).

“bride-price”
Christ loved the church, and gave Himself for it...

Ephesians 5:25-27
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22
“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come (For many are called, but few are chosen).
Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast. (For many are called, but few are chosen).
But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy (For many are called, but few are chosen).
Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’
And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good.
So the wedding hall was filled with guests.
“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’
And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
"For many are called, but few are chosen.”

"Those who are called" (Guests)
Revelation 19:7-9
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.
And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Summery:

The Comparison
The Kingdom of Heaven (Revelation 19), may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast (Matthew 22).

The King sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. For many are called, but few are chosen. (Matthew 22).

Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19).

Invitation:
Tell those who are invited, come to the wedding feast.
But they would not come (For many are called, but few are chosen).

Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited come to the wedding feast (For many are called, but few are chosen).'
But they paid no attention and went off..

They who paid no attention and went off...
one to his farm, another to his business.
...while the rest seized his servants (those who were sent to call those who were invited), treated them shamefully, and killed them (persecution of the saints).

Hindering the servants, from calling those who were invited.

Saul (Paul), before conversion, can be compared to those who seized the servants.

Saul (Paul), not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests,  but punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them, I persecuted them.

Conversion: A light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me, I heard a voice...
"Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me (Jesus whom you are persecuting)?

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.
Paul appeared before many, for this purpose, to appoint them as servants, to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light. Paul declared they should repent and turn to God and from the power of Satan, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and having a place among those, who are sanctified by faith.

For that reason Jews seized him (Paul), in the temple and tried to put him to death.

‘The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy.
Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’
The servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good.

A highway (the main roads), shall be there,
and it shall be called the Way of Holiness;
the unclean shall not pass over it.

It shall belong to those who walk on the way;
even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.
The distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
Malachi 3:18; Isaiah 35:8

The Wedding Garments are supplied by The King Himself (He has clothed them in righteousness).

His wife hath made herself ready... To her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white (for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints).

The King came in to look at the guests... A man who had no wedding garment was questioned and asked... 'How did you get in here without a wedding garment?’

You can not array yourself in fine linen (for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints), the wedding garments are supplied by The King Himself.
You can not clean yourself... Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”?

Without a garment, symbolizing you have been made clean, given a pure heart, and cleansed from sin... All without a garment, will be destroyed, cast into outer darkness.

The King was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burned their city (Matthew 22).

Then the King said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness.
In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Revelation 19).'

Each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband

The Peril of Adultery

Proverbs 5
Drink water from your own cistern
And fresh water from your own well.

Should your springs be dispersed abroad,
Streams of water in the streets?
Let them be yours alone
And not for strangers with you.

Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.

For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress
And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?

Cistern and well refer to the wife from whom the husband is to draw all his satisfying refreshment, sexually and affectionately.

Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Penalties for breaking The Law and reviewing The Commandments.
Adultery in the Heart and Loving Your Neighbor.
A transgressor of The Law, guilty of all.
(Lev. 20:10; Deut. 5:18; Mt. 5:27; 19:18; Rom. 13:9; James 2:11)

Malachi 2:15
"Take heed then to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of your youth."

The History of Foolish and Unwise Husbands & Wives:

John MacArthur says, "God offers to bless male procreation when it is confined to one's wife."
In spite of the sinful polygamy of David (1 Chronicles 3:1-9), and Solomon (1 Kings 11:1-4), and many more...

Abijah grew mighty. And he took fourteen wives and had twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.
Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
Gideon had seventy sons, his own offspring, for he had many wives.
Jacob (Israel), had two wives and their maidservants, along with thirteen children total, between the four women.
Jehoiada got for him two wives, and he had sons and daughters.
Lamech took two wives.
Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and concubines (he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters).

The instruction here identifies God's ideal as one wife:
  • Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
  • 1 Corinthians 7:1-5 ...because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
  • 1 Timothy 3:2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach...
  • 1 Timothy 3:12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife
  • Titus 1:5-8 ...the husband of one wife...

Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel:
  • If a man has two wives, the one loved and the other unloved...
The Lord saw that Leah (Jacob's first wife), was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel (he loved her much more than Leah Gen. 29), remained childless.
Leah was convinced Jacob would love her because she bore him children.
“It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”
“Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.”
“Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.”

Solomon's Great Wealth/Heart Turns from the Lord:
  • He shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold (Deut. 17:17).
Solomon's wives turned away his heart. For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and did not wholly follow the Lord, as David his father had done.
The Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice (3:5; 9:2), and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods.
But he did not keep what the Lord commanded (1 Kings 11:4, 6, 9-10).

11:9-10
Appeared to him twice. On both occasions, God had warned Solomon, so he had no excuses.

The Commands

"You shall therefore love the LORD your God, and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments."

“You shall have no other gods before Me."

“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

“You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God...

Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.
Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son (1 Kings 11:11-12).

1 Kings 11:11 not kept My covenant. Solomon failed to obey the commandments to honor God (Ex. 20:3-6).

The Legacy of Solomon:
"He will die for lack of instruction,
And in the greatness of his folly he will go astray."
Proverbs 5:23

Read the acts of Solomon, all that he did, they are written in the book 1 Kings 11:1-43

Foolish and Unwise Wives:

Proverbs 14:1; 21:9; Mark 3:25
Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands... And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Genesis 16:3-4

Abram's wife Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her maid, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife.
He went in to Hagar, and she conceived; and when she (Sarai), saw that she (Hagar), had conceived, her mistress was despised in her sight.

Job 5:2
Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.

Genesis 30

When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister.

“Here is Bilhah, my servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.”

So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her, and she became pregnant and bore him a son.

When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her servant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

Summery:
I can visualize what it was like to be Abraham or Jacob, and the many others, who dealt with "brawling woman" (pertaining to more than one), and determine why it might be better to dwell in a corner of the housetop.
In the evening, David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof, and I wonder if this became somewhere he dwelled often, to escape contentions and if he did, how many more women did he gaze upon, as they washed themselves and did he acquire more wives because he inquired of them?

1 Corinthians 7:1-5 ...because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Polygamy:
Polygamy was taught by leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (they are not Christians), for more than half of the 19th century, and practiced publicly from 1852 to 1890 by between 20 and 30 percent of Latter-day Saint families. The Latter-day Saints' practice of polygamy has been controversial, both within Western society and the LDS Church itself. America was both fascinated and horrified by the practice of polygamy.

1 Corinthians 10:11 "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."

Who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool... God knows.

The History of Husbands and Wives:

“It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

The Temptation and Fall of Man:

The serpent was crafty... He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

The Aftermath: The eyes of both were opened. Man has become like one of us, in knowing good and evil.

The Shame: The man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God.

The Blame Game:

Adam: “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”

Galatians 6:7-8
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you,‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you (Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned);
in pain you shall eat of it (To eat the bread of painful labors), all the days of your life (all his days his task is painful and grievous; even at night his mind does not rest);
thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread (To eat the bread of painful labors),
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”

The Vanity of Toil

Land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless, and its curse is imminent.
For the creation was subjected to futility, not by its own will, but because of the One who subjected it, in hope...
"This one (Noah), will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the LORD has cursed."
"I (God), will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man's heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done."

Eve: “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

"Your desire shall be contrary to your husband,
but he shall rule over you.”

The Judaea/Christian Home:
Wives, are to submit to their own husbands, as to the Lord.
Wives, are to submit to their husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Wives, are to be subject to their own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by their wives conduct.

Eve: The Mother of All Living
"Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil."

Moral of The True Story:
Just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.
For sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, deceives us and through the commandment put us to death.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.

He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.
Have we covered our transgressions like Adam, By hiding our iniquity?

Summery:
When I think of a serpent (snake), in regards to Satan, prior to the fall (1:31), I do not believe he needed to disguises himself as an angel of light. It is only after the fall, because God tells him, he will crawl on his belly (creeping), cursing him, above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; and dust he shall eat all the days of his life.
We all know to stay away from snakes, especially poisonous ones, but Eve would not have known whether or not to discern between non poisonous snakes (good), verses poisonous snakes (evil), because man had dominion over all animals.

He obviously took on a form, and manifested himself in order to deceive Eve, as "a creeping thing."
He successfully deceived Eve because he was cunning (he was shrewd), not because he used his supernatural beauty (Isaiah 14:13-14). His appearance, no matter what form (until he is exposed), is enlightening to the eyes. He feeds off our flesh, our sinful desires and is able to entice us, because our flesh is weak.
Satan should not outwit us (as he did with Eve), we are not unaware of his schemes. We are to be sober (watching and praying), and vigilant; because our adversary the devil walks about (To and Fro), like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Submit yourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

The Good Husband & Bad Wife:

Satan beheld Job in his hand and The Lord preserved his life, by allowing Satan to spare it.

Job's wife, spoke as one of the foolish women would speak.
Sinning with her lips.
She should of kept silent (not permitted to speak), but should of been in submission, as the Law also says.
He held fast to his integrity (in all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong), while she encouraged him to curse God and die, he was not bitter toward her, because in all this, Job did not sin and by doing good he put to silence the ignorance of his foolish wife.
His example/conduct was a valuable illustration of teaching, reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
Job was upright and blameless. He was content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when he was weak, he was strong.

“Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth." Proverbs 4

The Bad Duo, Ananias and Sapphira:

"For the Love of Money"

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." 1 Timothy 6:10
But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?
While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own?
And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal?
Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart?
You have not lied to man but to God.”

That wicked man will die for his sin... Lying to the Holy Spirit.

When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

That wicked woman will die for her sin... Lying to The Holy Spirit.

After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.”
And she said, “Yes, for so much.”
But Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

Moral of the True Story:
If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
Greed, which is idolatry.
Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
He who profits illicitly troubles his own house.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth.
The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

“Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you, with his neighbor, for we are members of one another."
Ephesians 4:25
