No Other Doctrine- Study in Timothy Part1:

"Religions are man's search for God; the gospel is God's search for man. There are many religions, but one gospel." -E. Stanley Jones

2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word! Be ready in season & out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering & teaching."

I am doing a study on Timothy- "that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will" (2 Timothy 2:26) and "Do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry" (2 Timothy 4:5).

Part 1-
Paul urges Timothy to stay where he was in Ephesus. The work of the will of God is not easy but the finished work was not yet complete (1:3).
The Lord has us where He needs us. Like a good Soldier, he does not dare to abandon his assignment place. He has an order. Consider Paul's reason he gave to Timothy.
Paul's warning to the Ephesians (Acts 20:28-30), was predicted. False teacher's were in the Church.
Our Pastor's job is to warn us (as Paul did), & teach us the TRUTH!

No Other Doctrine- Part 3:

Continued-

I Timothy 1:4 NKJV
"nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith."

*Fables/Endless genealogies-

*Before Peter was martyred (John 21:18), he reminded us that we could TRUST the Word of God.

*No prophesy should be withheld (or was withheld) from the rest of scripture or an interpretation of secretive/private visions (man made) that can not prove to be works of God. The Spirit wrote one book!

"the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Proverbs 1:7

II Peter Ch.1
"For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty." Vs.16

Vs.21

"for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."

I John 4:1 NKJV
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but *test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many *false prophets have gone out into the world.

- John tells us to TEST the Spirits. False Prophets ministering "The Word of God," should be tested by taking your time to examine the evidence and study the Scriptures.

"search the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so." (Acts 17:11)

Jeremiah 23:16, 21-22 NKJV
"Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; They speak a vision of their own heart, Not from the mouth of the Lord ." Vs. 16

“I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran. I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied." Vs.21

"But if they had stood in My counsel, And had caused My people to hear My words, Then they would have turned them from their evil way And from the evil of their doings." Vs. 22

Titus 1:16 NKJV
"They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work."

Also look up the following verses:
Isaiah 6:9-10; 44:18-19

-The Immaturity/Maturity of your Faith & Spiritual Discernment (Hebrews 5:12-14 NKJV)
"For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food." Vs. 12

"For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe."
Vs. 13

"But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." Vs.14

*Ephesians 4:14- Mature in Christ:
Mature believers understand the heavenly priesthood of Jesus Christ and know how to come to the throne of grace for help. They are skillful in using God's truth in their personal lives, and they can also teach others. do you qualify?

No Other Doctrine-The Teaching of A Different Doctrine Part 2:

Continued-

Vs. 3 (1 Timothy 1:3)
*"Teach a different doctrine" (ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν).
This is one of the many words peculiar to the pastoral Epistles. It only occurs here and 1 Timothy 6:3.

It is formed from ἑτεροδιδάσκαλος, a teacher of other than right doctrine, and means "to play the part of a teacher of other than right doctrine," just as in ecclesiastical language ἐτερόδοξος means "one who holds opinions contrary to that which is orthodox," and such as do so are said ἑτεροδοξεῖν.

The classical sense is a little different, "one who holds a different opinion" - "to be of a different opinion."

The introduction of the word into the vocabulary of Scripture is a sign of the somewhat later age to which this Epistle belongs, when heresies were growing and multiplying.

Other similar compounds are ἑτερόγλωσσος (1 Corinthians 14:21) and ἑτεροζυγεῖν (2 Corinthians 6:14).
Resources: Pulpit commentary

Romans 1:25 KJV
"Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."

* Men know God from creation and conscious (vs. 1:19-20) but refuse to honor him as God. They live for the creature, not the Creator and make themselves into Gods (vs. 25; Genesis 3:4-5 KJV)

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as *gods, knowing good and evil." (Gen. 3:4-5)
